Out of Town 10/16- 10/24

saturday 19

Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar

Kanye West's most recent big-headed crazy-pants claim is that he's the no. 1 rock star on the planet. Perhaps that's why there are $900 tickets available for the front rows of his upcoming Seattle concert with Kendrick Lamar. The Key Arena show marks the kickoff of West's first solo tour since 2008's Glow in the Dark tour and his next polarizing endeavor between those who think he's a praiseworthy genius and those who consider him a raving lunatic. 8 pm. Key Arena. $62-$941.

saturday 19

Passion Pit

Last week, the notoriously unstable lead singer for Passion Pit, Michael Angelakos, released a letter on the band's webpage entitled "Why Bands Cancel Shows and Why it Sucks for Everyone Involved." If any band has insight to this topic it's Passion Pit, the indie synth-pop group has canned dozens of gigs in just a few short years due to the unpredictable health of its lead singer. Saturday's show is on for sure, we think, but if not, there are sure to be a lot of unhappy hipsters looking for a place to dance in Portland. 8 pm. Moda Center. $35.

sunday 20

King Tuff and Wavves

King Tuff is the cassette lover's hip throwback to '90s stoner rock. The album "Was Dead" was originally released in 2007 and—even through it was just a few years old—was considered to be a collectable (mostly by pizza-loving bong aficionados) because so few copies were pressed. At least that was the case until the album's rerelease on Sub Pop last year. Raw simplistic punky power pop and tons of reverb mark the band fronted by Kyle Thomas. 8 pm. Wonder Ballroom. $18-20.

wednesday 23

Deer Tick and Robert Ellis

At the head of the alt-country revival with groups like Portland's Blitzen Trapper, Delta Spirit and Dawes, Deer Tick songs boast debaucherous swagger fueled by alcohol and heartbreak. Lead singer John McCauley can as easily make listeners want to slam a bottle of cheap whiskey and dance on the bar as crawl into a tear-stained blanket and mourn ex-lovers. 8:30 pm. Wonder Ballroom. $16-18.
