TV Mike and the Scarecrows

Chugging along to the beat of its own folksy drummer somewhere between Wilco and a Californian dog day afternoon, TV Mike and the Scarecrows aren’t searching for a lost brain, they’re masterminding a Laurelhurst Canyon resurgence. Local favorites Wilderness open. Sat., July 26. 9 pm. Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr. $5.

Lou Shields

With a handmade “shit-tar” in an open G tuning, Lou Shields takes the slide blues to a whole new level of DIY. Shields has a Daniel Johnston charm and simplicity to his music in addition to playing a mean tinny string and a screaming harmonica. Tue., July 29. 9 pm. Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr. $5.

Pickathon!

Ok so maybe we’re a bit prematurely excited for this, but the Pickathon music festival on Pendarvis Farm is the highlight of the Oregon summer. The festival features two sets each from LA punk rockers X, the sweet twangy sounds of Valerie June, Shakey Graves, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Jolie Holland, Mac DeMarco, The War on Drugs and dozens of others. Just a few hours north, the eco-friendly attitude (no plastic please!), the gorgeous setting and the amazing music from touring acts the nation over will make this trip out of town well worth your time. Aug. 1-3. Pendarvis Farm, 16581 SE Hagen Rd, Happy Valley.
