The Bulletin announced on the front page of this morningโs paper that its parent company, Western Communications, had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in a federal court yesterday.
The article, which ran alongside a lengthy front-page editorial by editor John Costa, insists that the company, and in turn, The Bulletin, would continue to operate and that the bankruptcy move is intended to protect the company while it renegotiates the terms of its $18 million in loans with Bank of America.
Bulletin publisher Gordon Black was quoted as saying that the argument between the company and the bank is focused on the interest rates and terms of the loans. Black also said in the article that Western Communicationsโ revenues have dropped by about 25 percent since 2007.
Weโre awaiting a return call from Black for further comment on todayโs news and weโll keep you posted as we learn more.
This article appears in Aug 25-31, 2011.

A once fine newspaper run by Bob Chandler has turned into a complete rag under John Costa’s management. They can spin the story but most Central Oregonians know the Bulletin is for coupons and ads.
It wouldn’t break my heart to see The Bulletin go away entirely, or at least the editor. Seems personal vendettas (ie: Patrick Flaherty) seem more news worthy and the practice of “pen mightier than the sword” approach was reason enough to cancel my subscription of many, many years. There are smaller papers here that offer great information and entertainment updates that I am interested in. So when revenues drop further and the dinosaur goes away…good riddance!
Haven’t picked up that rag in years. I get my news (as most people do) by “select” news sources on the Internet. Why read all that socialist garbage when you can avoid it. We only pray the same result happens to the rag in Portland as well.
I quit purchasing the Bulletin when I realized how biased they were in their reporting. Remember the story on the fire engine that went to a child care provider’s address? Not for a fire call, one of the firefighters (Dan Tigner) went there to yell, frighten and terrorize the day care provider for not releasing his son to his sister. The sister was not on the pick up list and is a convicted felon. The reporter stated the city fire truck did not go out of its way, that was untrue. There have been several stories that only tell one side or sugar coat as not to offend a news source. There was a great deal more to that story than DA Flaherty. The Bulletin is a waste of paper.
Newspapers are going the way of the Dinosaur. Books are next…RiP
In other words, we’re in deep kimchee – no surprise, this worthless rag has been going downhill for years…especially with Costa running the day to day! Betsy is about as worthless as they come…nice try!!!
