The stench of the Democrats has been in Salem for 25 years, and some are just now beginning to smell it?
Under the leadership of the Dems Oregon now has the “privilege” of being the highest taxed entity in the world only surpassed by Denmark. New York, California, Ohio, Sweden, etc., are taxed at lower rates then Oregon, and we don’t even have a sales tax to blame.
Swipies, even when I write something in praise of the Republicans you’ve got to come up with a sneering, jeering reply. Just the kind of good-natured, lovable guy you are, I guess. I’m glad the only contact I have with you is through this blog.
If “socialist” Oregon is so horrible, why don’t you move to a state where the political climate is more congenial to you? Mississippi or Alabama, for example. Or even Idaho.
The Eye is apparently blind to the fact that unlike Reps. Carter & Walker, Rep. Galizio wasn’t appointed to the job by the Gov. But don’t let the facts get in the way of your blogging.
Alvin: Thanks for clearing that up — my mistake. The appointment coming hard on the heels of Galizio switching his vote on the Metolius still has a peculiar odor, though. IMO.

I suggested the same for many of you who seem to hate America so bad, and all I got was sneers. If Conservative America is so bad why don’t you leave?
Let me give you one example of the “stench” in Salem, and just one of many.
A short while back a pregnant woman was killed, and her baby cut out. The baby died. Republicans tried to get a law passed to protect that baby. Your Democrats refused to allow it to come to a vote claiming that such a law might interfere with, or be used to restrict, the womans “right” to kill her unborn. It mattered not to them that 38 States have a similar law, and it has not restricted this “right”.
Now you worry about the “stench” caused by political appointments?
You are right. You claim to be giving the Republicans some kind of “credit”. Yet when a law is presented by the Republicans that would actually serve to protect life you then sneer.
“A short while back a pregnant woman was killed, and her baby cut out. The baby died. Republicans tried to get a law passed to protect that baby. Your Democrats refused to allow it to come to a vote claiming that such a law might interfere with, or be used to restrict, the womans “right” to kill her unborn.”
I don’t recollect this case. Did some maniac kill this woman and then cut the baby out of her womb, killing it? That’s horrifying. But what law would have “protected” that baby? Do you think anybody crazy enough to do that would have been deterred by a law?

I believe it was in Washington County a couple of months ago. The neighbor woman wanted the baby.
Second question I guess would be does any law prevent all crimes? If not, why have any laws?
Next question is, the point is not to state that laws prevent crime, they are only a deterrment. In this case the woman could not be charged with a second murder even though the baby was viable. However, Democrats in Salem have opposed any laws protecting the fetus, and even laws such as Jessica Law to protect children.
Point being, the stench in Salem is overpowering for decent people, and has been for a long time. Just look at how they reacted when the people voted down a tax increase in 2004, or how they have reacted over the land use laws passed by the people.
“does any law prevent all crimes? If not, why have any laws?”
Laws can prevent crimes if the would-be criminal is more or less rational. But maniacs like this one don’t logically weigh actions vs. consequences.
But if the Democratic stench in Oregon is so powerful, why do people keep voting Democrats into power? I know, I know — they’re deluded “socialists.” And hate America too. Odd how full of deluded America-hating socialists America has become.

Would that hold true for any crime? We have laws against murder, yer murders occur. However, how does that justify not doing what we can to protect children, or the child a pregnant woman is carrying?
“But if the Democratic stench in Oregon is so powerful, why do people keep voting Democrats into power? I know, I know — they’re deluded “socialists.” And hate America too. Odd how full of deluded America-hating socialists America has become”
Not “odd” at all. Multnomah County is about 80% Democrat, and it controls the State.
Once you have an edcuactional system that does not allow any competitive thought to enter its curriculum what would the end result be? Children are not taught to think for themselves anymore, and unfortunately most adults lack that ability too.
People like you think greed is confined to the rich, or to the powerful. However, it is not. Greed is one of the basest of human natures. If one political party is offering the people everything it wants for “free” then what would the end result be?
Most of the supporters of the Democrats have swaalowed the line given to them just as you have, and as most readers of this paper have. They fail to see the consequences of their actions, or the intent of those they support. Thus, Oregon is now the second highest taxed entity in the world only surpassed by Denmark. Oregon also has one of the highest cost health care insurance programs in the US thanks to the mandates imposed by the Democrat controlled government. Then there is the general cost of living. Oregon also has the pleasure of being one of the most expensive places in the US to live.
In order for the situation to change people have to be able to think for themselves, not just follow the party line. To that end, as I have been posting in here it is quite obvious that “critical thinking” is way beyond the abilities of most of the readers, as it is beyond the abilities of those who print this paper.
Now, another factor one has to consider is just who votes. Less then 40% of the people actually take the time to vote. And it is well known that the Democrats have the most active voters. If you have one county, such as is Multnomah, where a large majority of the voters support one party then one could easily see how they would control the rest of the State.
In conclusion, I see that you do not take the time to refute the examples I have given, and equally obvious is that you cannot.
One day I am going to write a “letter to the editor” explaining the history of how a few can change the lives of the many. Such as during the Revolutionary War only 23% of the population of the States supported the Colonial Army. The rest wanted to stay with the Brits. Fortunately the minority in that matter won.
This is not true today. Polls have shown that onbly 20% of the population considers themselves to be “liberal” yet they control the education, the finances, and the government. Hopefully the majority who consider themselves to be “conservatives” will see that health care option, and the out of control spending, as the final straw, and get rid of the “liberals”, and take back the country.
“Once you have an edcuactional system that does not allow any competitive thought to enter its curriculum what would the end result be? Children are not taught to think for themselves anymore, and unfortunately most adults lack that ability too.”
Oddly enough I agree with you, Swipies. Our public education system was once the envy of the world; now it churns out semi-literates who know virtually nothing about anything — history, geography, science, math, literature, our political system.
And maybe not so oddly, the rise of “conservatism” coincided with the decline of the public education system.
Look at the data on red states vs. blue states — the red states almost without exception have higher illiteracy rates, lower high school graduation rates, smaller numbers per capita of college and post-college graduates.
Knowledge is power, and those who lack it are easily manipulated by the powerful who have it. That’s why the right wing has consistently sought to starve public education (indeed, many would like to see it disappear completely). Keep ’em ignorant and they’ll believe anything Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Hannity, Coulter, Glenn Beck et al. tell them.
“And it is well known that the Democrats have the most active voters.”
Whenever I see a statement that begins with “it is well known” or “everybody knows that,” my Bullshit-o-Meter pegs out. It is a historical pattern that, as a rule, Republicans turn out to vote at a higher rate than Democrats. This pattern was broken in 2008 — but not by much; Republicans 28.7%, Democrats 31.3% — because of a huge get-out-the-vote effort by Democrats and the likelihood that Republicans were discouraged by their lackluster ticket and the prospect of defeat.
“Oregon also has the pleasure of being one of the most expensive places in the US to live.”
That’s just a load of crap. It doesn’t even make the Top 10. See costoflivingbystate.org.
H. Bruce Miller says:

What rise in conservatism? With over two thirds of the teachers being self described “liberals” you want to blame Conservatives for the failure of the public education system? Was it conservatives that introduced Outcome Based Education, Whole English, New Math, etc.?
“Look at the data on red states vs. blue states — the red states almost without exception have higher illiteracy rates, lower high school graduation rates, smaller numbers per capita of college and post-college graduates.”
This has historically been true simply because of the South, and then there are other areas where it is historically true that “Red States” actually work for a living.
During the Bush/Kerry campaigns the concept of who was the more intelligent came up. Guess who were the most intelligent?

See, you started out so agreeable, and we might have had an honest conversation. Then you had to come up with your bigotted lies, and dishonest ideology.
It is kind of hard to take you seriously when one realizes that the Dept. of Education, Teachers Union, National Teachers Assoc., PTA, most school administrations, and the teaching staff, are controlled by leftwing loonies.
On the other hand, private schools, charter schools, and home schooling, are mostly Conservative in the K-12 grades. And guess which ones are succeeding, and getting the better grades?

And yet, Democrats controlled the House, and Senate, on the federal level for how many years out of the last 70? And here in Oregon Democrats have controlled both houses, and the Governor’s office, for how many years?
