Wondering if there’s rain in today’s forecast? Don’t expect NOAA, the federal weather agency, to give you any tips. Their website is down (see below), and serves as yet another reminder of the enormous reach of the current government shutdownโthe first in 17 years.
Nearly 800,000 government employees are now sitting at home or working without pay. National parks and monuments are closed and there’s no certain end in sight. The New York Times has a good breakdown of how we got to this point and how the shutdown is playing out, as well as some interesting infographics.

We need a law that says a government shutdown = no confidence in the government. We hold a nationwide election for every seat in Congress within 90 days.
You don’t need a weatherman to know who the windy blowhards in the Republican Party are. The tea party mob despises government and hates government workers. The GOP leadership in Congress is scared shitless by Ted Cruz, who offers living proof that George W. Bush is not the only idiot to graduate from an Ivy League school. The TPers are terrorists who want to bring the government to its knees because they simply can’t accept that a black man is President. Racists? You betcha! Michael Funke
