Lightning struck the roof of the sanctuary at First Presbyterian around 11 p.m. Sunday night, causing a fire that did roughly $50,000 worth of damage.

Three fire engines responded and fire crews used tall ladders to access the roof and douse the fire quickly, according to a news release from the Bend Fire Department.

Crews continued to search for fire damage throughout the walls and ceiling of the church through several hours of the night.
