One of the best parts about BendFilm, which kicks off tomorrow night, is the chance to check out some of the films made right here in Central Oregon. I got a chance to take a look at “Big,” which incidentally is not about a suburban 12 year old who, thanks to a carnival game, suddenly transforms into a full-grown man and inexplicably becomes a toy company executive.
This “Big” is a locally produced short film about a documentary team that ventures out into the mountains in search of Sasquatch and runs into more than they bargained for. The film, directed and produced by Brad Douglas of Outdoor Films, best known for his fishing show with Gary Lewis that can be seen on COTV11, ventures into many scenic areas that locals will certainly notice. One scenic spot that plays a significant role in the story is Todd Lake, where the characters camp out for a night in hunt of the storied creature.
The film stars some local talent in Sarah Chipowsky, who plays a feisty filmmaker and provides to be the films’ strongest performance, as well as Ted Hiller. Ringing in at 29 minutes, “Big” serves as a comedic look at the world of Sasquatch hunting (yes, there is such a world) with a peppering of drama tossed in here and there.
“Big” premieres at BendFilm on Friday at 3pm at McMenamins. There are some tickets available at the door, but you’d be best served to get them online or just buy a full pass to BendFilm.
