The Silver Rail tragedy inflicted a communal trauma that most of us feel broadly. For others, that pain is acute.
As such, Bend-La Pine Schools is inviting students, parents, district staffers and community members to its Community Engagement Session at Pilot Butte Middle School on Nov. 5, from 5:30-7:30 pm.

For Silver Rail families and staff, BLPS will hold a dedicated engagement session the day before, on Nov. 4.
Representatives from the National Mass Violence Center will facilitate the conversation at each engagement session. Folks can ask questions and voice concerns to BLPS leadership and school board members. Representatives from the Bend Police Department will also be there to listen, answer questions and receive notes of concern. Deschutes County Behavioral Health Services will provide mental health support.
Pilot Butte Middle School can accommodate 400 people at the session, and an online live stream will be available on the Silver Rail Community Information Hub. A Spanish-language interpretation of the event will also be provided.
The National Mass Violence Center provides first-rate, evidence-based information and services throughout the entire recovery process, according to its website.
