Becky Drury, 54, of Bend, is recovering in hospital after a fourth, and “hopefully final,” surgery Oct. 27 to reconstruct the left arm that was injured during the Oct. 15 shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School. Post-surgery, her husband reported she can move her fingers “a small amount” and blood flow to her hand “looks good.”

Drury underwent a lengthy surgery on Tuesday, her fourth since the shooting, according to Will Drury, her husband, who posted on her GoFundMe fundraiser site. He said she went “back at about noon and finished close to 11pm. They took a section of bone from her leg and used it to replace the missing bone in her arm. They also took a skin graft from that leg to cover the wound. The surgeons are all really happy with how the surgery went. It was a very long day and we’re happy it’s done.”
Will Drury also posted a picture of his wife post-surgery, enjoying a “victory donut,” after rushing to be by her side Oct. 28. He said she called him in the early-morning hours post-surgery, “sounding like a kid on Christmas Day! It was wonderful to hear the excitement in her voice. She was so happy to be whole again!”
Currently, Drury’s GoFundMe has raised more than $203,000. Will Drury said some funds are being used to make modifications to the couple’s home.
A teacher and three students were killed on Thursday, Oct. 15 when Griffin J. John II, 16, shot his way into the special-education classroom at the S.E. Bend school. Megan Lambert, 25; Rhoam Summers, 5; and an 8-year-old and 11-year-old student were shot and killed, while Saylor Graham, 7, a student, and Drury, were injured. Kaylub Giamanco, 36, whose two children attend Silver Rail, was passing the school on his lunch break Oct. 15 when he saw John approaching the school with a shotgun after having shot twice at a pickup truck. Giamanco pursued John into the school, shooting and killing him.
