Following changes to city ordinances this spring, Bend has opened the doors for ridesharing services to operate in the area.

Starting today, that includes Lyft, touted as the fastest-growing rideshare service in the United States.

While we don’t yet know the number of drivers available in Bend, Lyft Communications Manager Darcy Nenni told the Source Weekly today: “We’ve had a tremendous response from people who want to drive and we’ve been working hard to build our supply in order to get passengers a reliable and safe ride.”

Like other ridesharing services, the first step is to download the Lyft app from an app store. Riders can then request a ride from their current location, and then pay and rate the driver at the end of the ride. Lyft’s service is available in Bend, Redmond, Terrebonne and Sisters, as well as some other surrounding communities. Check the coverage map to see if the service is available in your area. Uber, another ridesharing service, launched in Central Oregon in May.
