In another surprising show of testicular fortitude the Conciliator in Chief has stood up to Tea Bag nation by blocking the potential deportation of scores of illegal immigrants. ย

Obama who just recently endorsed gay marriage, another hot button social issue, announced on Friday that his administration was bypassing Congress in an effort to curtail deportations, a move that nationโ€™s Hispanic community has been urging.

In announcing the new policy, Obama defied republicans who have scuttled efforts to reform the nationโ€™s immigration policies, specifically as they relate to immigrants who came, or were brought, to the country as children and have since assimilated. GOP leaders killed a similar effort in 2010, dubbed the Dream Act, that would have established a path to citizenship for immigrants who arrived illegally when they were under 16 years old.

Under the new policy, which Obama said made for a โ€œmore fairโ€ approach, immigrants who arrived as children or teens, are currently under 30 years old, are in school or earned a high school degree, or served in the military, would be eligible for work permits and be exempt from deportation. What the policy does not do, however, is create a clear path to citizenship or permanent legal status.

While itโ€™s nice to see Obama taking some bold social initiatives four years into his tenure, the move probably says as much about the changing demographics of our nation and the importance of the Hispanic vote in November as it does about Obamaโ€™s willingness to lock horns with Boehner, Ryan and the rest of the clown show that runs the Republican Party.

  1. Eric – This was a major insult and slap in the face to those that applied, waited, and worked hard, to get here legally. This was a clear and pure political attempt to buy votes by Obama, while ignoring those that came here legally. The question to be answered in November is: Will the votes Obama bought today, outnumber the votes he loses from those he insulted today.

BTW, want to talk about clowns . . . even Bush JR was able to ramrod his agenda through both House and Senate controlled by the Democrat’s. Obama can’t get a 100% Dem. vote + a few wishy-washy Republicans. So, tell me, who’s the clown!

  2. Let’s see. Unemployment is approximately 8-9%. Illegals account for approximately 5% of the workforce. And now we’re going to allow more of them to legally get jobs? They are in this country illegally, which means they are criminals. These criminals have NO rights in this country. Get rid of them all until they come here the right way! Deporting them all would give us that 5% back and LOWER our unemployment rate. Why is this so difficult to see?
