Source contributor Travis Cowan has been spending some time down at the Occupy Bend camp this week and camp back with these photos.

We’re running a full account of his time with those protesting at the site of the former Bulletin in next week’s print edition, but here’s a quick sample of Cowan’s piece…and some of his photos.

Occupy Bend Village, like many of the Occupy movements across the globe, does not have an official leader, but Vic Hesher has been instrumental in its organization since the movement started in Drake Park on Saturday, October 15. While the greatest criticism levied against the Occupy movements has been their apparent lack of focus, Hesher spoke of several key points that the village has agreed on.

โ€œThis is not an anarchist model. This is a democratic model. Weโ€™re interested in restoring democracy and that is the fundamental element of this worldwide movement,โ€ Hesher said before detailing the five primary points Occupy Bend Village have adopted.

1.)ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Support for small business.

2.)ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Separation of consumer banks from speculative banks.

3.)ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Support for the creation of jobs on a local and national scale.

4.)ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Increases in both Federal and state-level spending for education.

5.)ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Reduction of military spending.

  1. I spent all day at the occupy bend camp and I love that place . they are having a big march on saturday october 29 at noon . they plan to stay there next month . I feel that the vast majority of central oregonians supports them , as do I . I will try to find the common ground for occupiers at a meeting I am holding . I am holding this meeting at the library in downtown bend . the meeting is open to the public and free . the meeting will be on a wednesday , november 2nd , at 2 p m . as soon as you walk through the glass door take a left . I will start off the meeting with a short speech about how I think that my web site , http://www.globalinternetgovernment.com is very similar to the occupiers goals and agenda . then I will chose people from the audience to speak . everyone who wants to speak will get a turn to speak . the rules are that you can only talk about occupy bend and you have to shut up and sit down less than four minutes after you open your yap .
