SALEM โ€“ The Oregon Legislature adjourned the 2016 legislative session โ€œsine dieโ€ yesterday, three days before the March 6 constitutional deadline for adjournment.

ย

House Speaker Tina Kotek (D โ€“ N/NE Portland) released the following statement:

โ€œIt has been an honor to serve Oregonians as the Speaker of ourย House of Representatives. Our elected leaders stepped up, working hard over the course of our short session to continue making important gains for Oregonians.โ€

โ€œThe hallmark of the 2016 session is without a doubt our action to raise Oregonโ€™s minimum wage. This landmark legislation will help hundreds of thousands of hard-working families pay the rent and put food on the table, while also respecting regional economic needs and giving local businesses time to plan.

โ€œThe legislature also took important steps to address Oregonโ€™s growing affordable housing crisis. Oregonians who are struggling to afford skyrocketing rent and other basic necessities will begin to see relief because of our actions to protect renters, build and preserve affordable housing, and help prevent homelessness.

โ€œWe also passed legislation to combat climate change, strengthen our schools, and help small businesses thrive. I’m proud of the progress we made this session to create greater opportunities for Oregonians across the state.”
