Want a hip haircut? One that won’t make you look like your dad (or your dad’s dad)? Bishops Barbershop, a Portland chain for “Generations X, Y and Z that delivers high-end salon quality at affordable prices in a casual, fun environment that includes edgy artwork and music, and trend-setting stylists” is moving into a vacant spot on Oregon Avenue, next door to the former Common Table. They don’t take appointments and but they do give patrons a cold bottle of Miller High Life (if they’re of age). If you trust Yelp reviews, it seems Bishops is fairly well likedโ€”by men and women. The chain, which has built its reputation on quick, affordable trims (a clippers only cut is $12), has thrived in the Rose City, with 12 locations and counting. A Seattle location is in the works.

In Bend Bishops will be competing with the decades-old L&K Barber Shop just across the street, as well as the three other established, independent downtown barbershops (not to mention the myriad salons). Can they all make it? Who knows! But a barbershop that serves beer is always welcome. Especially one that promises to not me you look like a doofus.
