This weekend marks a big step for local guitar maker Preston Thompson.

The experienced guitar builder will be opening the doors of his shop (at 352 E. Main St., Sisters) where he will continue to build specialty guitars based on C.F. Martin designs from the 1930s.

Celebratory workshops will take place on Friday covering everything from improving rhythm and timing to approaching improvisation, and Saturday, the Belfry will host a concert featuring Nashville musician Dan Miller, and Tim May and Gretchen Priest-May.

The guitars are carefully crafted and gorgeous, made from Brazilian rosewood and German spruce with tops specially chosen for their tone rather than aesthetics. They have been endorsed by Grammy winner Peter Rowan, guitarist John Greven and even by actor Matthew Fox of Lost fame, who lives here in Central Oregon.

For more information on the grand opening check out Preston Thompson’s website.

Open house Friday, January 17th from 5-8 pm, with guitar demos, refreshments, showroom tours, workshops Concert with Tim May, Gretchen Priest-May and Dan Miller on Jan 18.
