Every year, the skies above Redmond light up with colorful explosions to celebrate the Fourth of July. But this year could be different.
This morning, the Redmond Chamber of Commerce put the call out for donations, saying that they needed $3,500 by tomorrow to ensure that the annual fireworks display at the Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center would go on as planned. If they don’t get the cash gathered by tomorrow, there will be no fireworks. And somewhere, Paul Revere will be rolling in his grave.
For those who love fireworks and live in Redmond, they can make donations to the Redmond Chamber of Commerce (446 SW 7th Street) or Redmond City Hall (716 SW Evergreen).

I read “need 3.5K by tomorrow” as a red flag.
-Could the call for help come any earlier? ..I mean Really, we’re running a CITY here for goodness sakes!
Cheer up folks! If Redmond’s official fireworks get cancelled all you need to do is drive through one of the local neighborhoods and you’ll think you’ve teleported to New York City! There’s no shortage of loud, flashy and impressive pyrotechnics out there, and they last well past midnight … just ask my dog. Who needs the Chamber of Commerce!
I can think of soooooo many ways to put those $’s to use in this town than burning it up. Not to mention the fire hazards they can present. It really just seems like such a waste of money.
