We like to imagine that “outdoor recreator” and “nature lover” are mutually inclusive terms. Unfortunately, some people are not so humbled by nature that they feel inspired to treat the wilderness with respect. That, and/or their parents failed to teach them manners. (Examples: Those Boy Scouts who tipped over an ancientย rock formation, people who get drunk and shoot cans of hairspray in arid environments).

The most recent/egregious offender is an “artist” by the name of Casey Nocket. As Modern Hiker first reported, the woman has apparently been painting rock formations in national parks across the county, including Crater Lake National Park, and posting photos of her graffiti on Instagram.

Whether she’s inspired by the pictographs by indigenous residents or the elusive Banksy, the National Park Service is not impressed. (Neither are we.) According to Modern Hiker, a National Park Service Ranger is launching an investigation. Though the woman, who goes by the handle “creepytings,” appears to have set her Instagram to private, she is believed to have defaced natural features in Death Valley, Yosemite, Canyonlands, Zion, and The Ginn Mill.ย

Actual nature lovers are understandably angered, and a petition is now circling asking that, if found guilty, the woman face the maximum penalty.

What do you think is an appropriate punishment for defacing national parks?

  1. This is pretty bad. But it’s a shame that it takes an attractive blonde and a unique twist to make a story out of environmental damage. Really, this is barely worth a story. There is an ugly battle between environmentalists and really unattractive, overweight rednecks down here in South Deschutes County every day. With more damage, threats and conflicts than most Bendites could image. We could definitely use some press. -Friends of Ann’s Butte.

  2. Who do we think we are to ban people from producing art in natural environments? This is some of the oldest human behaviour on record.

  3. ๐Ÿ‘ I think it’s BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Americans are selling their land to let oil companies FRACK THE HELL OUT OF IT, ruining drinking water, which ruins health!!! Not to mention oil pipelines getting ready to be built across MANY STATES, which of course will have DEVASTATING effects on nature, animals, AND human beings. The Colorado river has dried up more this year than the past HOW MANY YEARS!?!? The people of Detroit are being FORCED out of their homes with the whole city FALLING APART, and as usual, it’s not ANYONE’S PROBLEM!!! So,with that being said (plus all of the other examples that i didn’t mention AND all of the other facts that are not tlld, or even kept from us) WHY THE HELL don’t you guys start petioning against something IMPORTANT?!?! But NO, instead you try to push for MAXIMUM PENALTY……WHAT? !?! FIGHT AGAINST OIL COMPANIES RUINING LAND AND WATER!!! What IGNORANCE AND STUPIDITY! !! It’s not like it’s just some ugly graffiti, it’s a wonderful piece of art! Plus, hieroglyphics (probably spellt wrong, sorry) are pretty much the same DAMN thing! Get with it, people, and use your time and energy going against something that ACTUALLY needs changing and people that NEED THE HELP!!!

  4. Humans painting on rocks 1000 years ago. Valuable for research in human culture and understanding. Humans painting on rocks now. Vandalism. I like how we can only alter our natural ennvironment legally if someone is making money off of it.
