OK, so we’re all aware that online polls really don’t mean much, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get fanatical about your hometown for Examiner.com’s “BeerCity USA 2011” poll.
As the name indicates, the poll asks you to vote for the best Beer City in the country. The current leader (by a large margin) is Asheville, N.C., which won the honor in last year’s poll.
Really? Asheville? Don’t get me wrong, I hear it’s a fine town, but as far as beer goes, we’ve got them beat, right?
Just check out this week’s feature by Erin Foote-Marlowe about the surge in brewing in our city.

Hey Bookey,
With all due respect, you’ve got it wrong on this one; don’t vote for Bend. Play a joke by voting for Asheville – like the rest of Oregonians already are. Residents of Bend, Portland and other legit beer meccas are voting for Asheville because crowning a Southern city our nation’s beer capital is too hilarious a mockery not to pass up. I.e. Places like Bend and Portland don’t need the Examiner’s BeerCity title because we already are Beer City. This poll has been sabotaged and become a joke. Which is why Asheville won last year and why Asheville is winning by a landslide this year. Even the people of Asheville themselves have figured this out. http://ashvegas.squarespace.com/journal/2011/4/26/will-portlanders-purposefully-muck-up-beer-city-usa-2011-pol.html
