Classesย are cancelled at Western Washington University today after threats targeting minority students appeared on social media. University President Bruce Shepard is calling the comments posted on socialย media hate speech. Students received emails and text alerts this morning aroundย 6 a.m. (OPB)

A man has beenย arrested in connection with the shooting of five people at a Black Lives Matterย protest in Minneapolis. The shooting victims injuries are not considered lifeย threatening and are undergoing treatment at local hospitals. Police are alsoย seeking two other men, who were also believed to be involved with the shooting. People were gathered outside of a Minneapolis police precinct protesting theย shooting death of Jamar Clark by a police officer. Three men opened fire on theย crowd after being escorted away from the protest. (New York Times)

Aย Russian warplane was shot down after entering Turkish airspace close to the Syrianย border on Tuesday. Turkey says the Russian plane was warned multiple times beforeย entering its airspace. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the actions aย โ€œstab in the back.โ€ NATO called for an emergency meeting in Brussels onย Tuesday. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said NATO supports its ally,ย Turkey. (New York Times) (NATO)
