It’s so simple! The Constitution, Amendment 14, Sec. 1, states that all people have “equal protection under the laws.” If heteros have the right to marry, so do gays because of equal protection.” The meaning is absolutely clear. Denying it is unconstitutional. So why are we debating it? We’re all the same people! It’s never been tested in a federal court, but it’s going to be.

If only the Constitution actually worked that way… From a political standpoint, with marriage currently defined as being between a man and a woman, the supreme court could still interpret that as meaning that those in non-heterosexual relationships still have the right to marry, just not the right to marry if the relationship is not heterosexual. However, the country was founded upon the principal of the “pursuit of happiness”, which I think sums up the need for marriage to be defined as between any two people.
From an emotional standpoint, if the crazy right wants to argue that this will get stretched to allow people to marry animals and inanimate objects, let them… let them marry their cats. Who is anyone to define love? What is anyone talking about when they say love is between one man and one woman? Are they referring to gender? Apparently not. Sex? Maybe… but who defines sex? Are we born into a sex? Are we labeled by current sex? Who determines the sex of intersex individuals? I hope none of that is up to the government… and if it isn’t, who is allowed a marriage license can’t be either.
Mr Bates… you’re missing the point! It’s against God’s Law and America’s a Christian country founded by Christian Founding Fathers on Christian Principles, therefore Gays can’t marry each other. Simple as a Conservative’s Cortex – you just don’t GET it. The US is a… a… Theocracy, like Saudi Arabia.
Mr Shortall
You are correct, being against the teachings of the Bible. But with that in mind God gave each and every one of us the wisdom to deside our own fate. And we will be held accountable for our decissions one day…..But how is it any of our Governments business to decide for us….and doesnt Gods law also say let them with no sin cast the first stone? And Judge not less you be judged.
I completely agree with R Shortall and greg. Marriage is between a man and a woman. God allows us to make our own decisions in life, and homosexuality just so happens to be a choice. It’s not a “disease of the mind” as I’ve heard before.
This country was founded by Christians, so there is Christianity in this nations history. The Bible says that homosexuality is a sin.
“Do not lie with a man, as a man would lie with a woman; that is detestable”
Leviticus 18:22
“If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have
done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will
be on their own heads.”
Leviticus 20:13
Now I’m not saying we should kill the gays. Mind you this is from the Old Testament, and they were a bit harsher on things like this back then. But the bigger picture is that they will be eternally damned to hell for choosing to be homosexual.
However, I think civil unions are acceptable. There should be no reason that a homosexual couple cannot share the same benefits a married couple would. And yes, I do think that this could potentially lead to the crazy woman down the street wanting to marry one or all of her cats. Its stupid to think, but what is going to stop someone who is desperate?
The Bible says that in the end times, good will become evil, and evil will become good. Look at it this way: homosexuality, witchcraft/wizardry, all of these things looked down upon as sin are becoming more popular and “good” every day. And day by day, the Ten Commandments are being removed from courthouses and town halls. Prayer has been taken out of schools. You don’t say the Pledge of Allegience before classes start. All of these things which are good are becoming evil. Think hard about this.
“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.”
Matthew 24:36
Richard–
Are you not surprised someone lacks the capacity to recognize, let alone appreciate and understand sarcasm?
I’m with you. Anyone who thinks otherwiseneed only ask ne question: What are the chances an Atheist would EVER be considered a serious candidate for the presidency?
Theists frighten me. Can the judgement of someone who believes Jesus walked among the Indians in America be trusted? Do we want someone who wants the laws of the land to be founded on the principles set down in Leviticus to interpret the Constitution and other laws? Do people really believe that witchcraft and wizardry exist and are truly a threat to their way of life?
Oh….I guess so.
Thanks Stephen,
No – the “missed sarcasm” didn’t surprise me one bit. I’ve seen it happen before and it’s even funnier “live”.
An atheist will probably never be elected President… actually, an atheist (declared) has probably never been elected to any significant office in the US – even Sheriff of some Godforsaken hick county! The reason for this is….. er, actually there is nothing I would adorn with the name “reason” that explains this stupid trend. American prudery, hypocrisy, “holier-than-thouism” perhaps? I shouldn’t be too hard on the US. There are many other countries where one would have to be a member of the accepted religion to even be considered for high office: Saudi Arabia, The Yemen, Iran (all 3 are Death Penalty countries too if my memory serves me right: could there be a connection?).
PS to tighty-whitey-righties out there: this comment contains no sarcasm
