Ashley Proctor is a person Redmond voters should be proud to welcome to the school board. She cites the support of educators and other community leaders in motivating her to see beyond her at-risk childhood — enlisting in the Army, and later, into a career as a social worker helping those with intellectual and mental disabilities. As a prospective school board member, funding is a major concern, she told us. She wants to place a focus on fighting for the individuals within schools who typically experience the biggest hits during budget cuts — those with disabilities and those with lower socioeconomic circumstances. She’s also focused on addressing socioemotional factors in schools, including behavior challenges and technology policies — a big area of concern for many parents. With important lived and professional experience within the public education system, as well as experience in human services, Proctor would bring a valuable perspective to the school board.
