This week’s letter comes from Minny Purinton who helped to organize the Obama inaugural bash at Boondock’s last week, raising more than $8,000 for our local homeless shelter. Unfortunately some of the party goers made off with her commemorative posters that Purinton was planning to auction for the benefit of local schools. Can the folks who, we hope, unwittingly absconded with the posters return them to their rightful owner? Yes they can. Read on to find out how. In the meantime, Minny can collect her winner’s prize, a pound of Strictly Organic Coffee, at our offices, 704 NW Georgia. – The editor.
I want to thank all those who participated in Bend’s Inaugural Ball. From the feedback we received, many folks seemed to have had a truly whomping good time. We made enough to donate $8,500 to the Bethlehem Inn, thanks to your support. Well done, Bend!
On another note, I would appreciate the return of a number of posters of Obama that were taken from the walls at Boondocks, in particular the ones of Obama’s smiling face with “Yes We Can” written underneath. Also, a poster of an artist’s rendition of the Obamas dancing at the Inaugural Ball was taken as well as the life size Obama and Biden stand-ups that people so fondly had their pictures taken with all night long. This was personal property that my husband and I had intended to auction at our school’s fundraiser and amounted to over $200 worth of posters. All these posters can be found online through Amazon if you would like your own copy.
In the meantime please return ours to the lobby of the Central Oregon Environmental Center at 16 NW Kansas Ave. No questions asked. There is usually no one downstairs because all the offices are upstairs if you are concerned about being seen. Just stick them on the nearest table. Thanks for doing the right thing and see you all at another fun party sometime in the future.

Mike and Minny did a great job. Thanks for this. When I came to Bend two decades ago I was worried that I had died and landed in hillbilly hell. I stayed as I loved the area, but the undertones in this town were not too far off from being a KKK town.
It was great to see as many supporters for Obama. I felt like I was finally home in a town that allows progressive thinking and supports a leader who is intelligent and not one to react as our former poor excuse for an elected president did.
Thanks also to Sally and the other people that helped Mike and Minni.
It was incredible and we should have another one soon and our chant should then be ” FOUR MORE YEARS” as it is going to take 8 years to clean up the Bush mess that impacted the whole world. Obama gained more respect in one week from the rest of the world than Bush and his father could have ever mustered to gain. Signing the bill to release the Gitmo prisoners and restoring the Geneva Convention gave the world hope that our nation was not going to end up as a post war Germany.
Not to worry! I’m sure some wild eyed zealot merely borrowed them to construct a shrine. As soon as they realize President Obama is just a man, they should be promptly returned.
Ye shall not lay claim to my 2004 “Re-Elect Al Gore” poster until those last 2 (Democratic) Florida counties have been recounted!
