I’m writing to discuss the lack of municipal, or at least affordable, golf in Bend. It seems that golf in Bend is reserved for people who’s chief concern in life is that scratch on their new Porsche. Golf is a sport meant to be enjoyed by all. It is a game that encourages honesty, integrity, etiquette, and perseverance. It seems to me that a sport that encourages a little moral fortitude should be accessible to the masses. Especially when football, baseball, and basketball players are striking for “only” making 15 “mil” a year.
I wanted to play golf the other day. I called virtually all of the courses around, and not one of them was under $60. None of them even gave so much as a student or a military discount. A little short sighted don’t you think? I don’t know why it’s so hard to understand that students don’t make much money, and that the college students of today are the potential golfers of tomorrow. If we can’t get a municipal course, at least give student/military discounts. I guarantee that courses would get more business and would ensure that golf has a strong future in Bend.

Your letter illustrates the problem with Bend. This town has “upscaled” itself to death.
