There's lots of talk about the opposition to Obama's health care plans, calling it communist, assailing it as an elimination of human freedom. But honestly, where's the problem? Insurance companies have ethics panels that determine if end-of-life procedures are worth the cost.

Block and Tackle: Latest Madden is a welcome change of pace
Q: So, Madden, I've got to say that I feel like I've really gotten to know you. You've been around for most of my gaming life. You're a 21-year-old franchise now. Does that mean you're graduating from keggers to legal liquor? Or is Madden 10 just a $60 beer-run to update the team rosters?
A: Football hasn't really changed in the last 21 years, except in the roster. So it's important to have a realistic football game using real-world players. And I think this year that's apparent in more than just statistics. For example, big guys are now actually bigger. They've got bigger heads, more weight. Now when Hefty Mendoza tackles Bucky Underslung – or whatever their names are – it actually looks like a big guy wiping out a little guy.
Tuesday Night, Nothing-to-Do Blues?
Tuesday night is about to roll around and with the Elks having finished for the season, that leaves few options to fill your evening. Yeah, you could go see Inglorious Basterds (which you should because it was great!) or another end-of-summer flick, but for only $5 you could rock out to some sweet and soulful indie rock at Rise Up International.
Maragas Winery Gets a Makeover
I had a chance to sit down with local winter entrepreneur extraordinaire Doug Maragas this past week to talk about his new(ish) winery and vineyard north of Terrebonne. We also touched on the future of his tasting room — and former residence — at the corner of Colorado an Bond.

Moon Mountain Music Festival…is FREE
I’ve been keeping an ear out as information about the secondinstallment of the Moon Mountain Rambler's very own music festival, the Moon Mountain Festival rolls out, and tonight finally got confirmation that the two-day event at Elk Lake over Labor Day Weekend is not only a go, but will be free this year.
Last year, the Moon Mountain Fest shocked the pants right off of me, turning out to be one of the most laid-back yet high-quality music events of 2008's summer.
Who wants to bet on the Bulletin?
I’m going to make a small wager right now with anyone who wants to take me up on it. I’ll wager a Taco Stand smothered burrito that the Bulletin leads tomorrow’s A section with a story and photo about the Over the Hill golf tourney in Sunriver.
Tonight is Ladies Night in Downtown Bend
Hey laaadies! That was of course meant to be sung in the voice and obnoxious tone of the Beastie Boys, in case that didn’t make sense. But anyway, let’s get to the point.
