4 Peaks Festival Cancelled

After a few months trying to find a way to make the event happen, the folks at the 4 Peaks Music Festival announced today that there will be no third installment of the festival.

Organizers announced this spring that a full-scale outdoor camping festival was off, but hopes were alive for an in-town event in July — but those plans, too, are now scrapped.

It’s All About the Bike: Fat, Skinny or Knobby

Henry and Amy celebrate a tandem victory.Paddling, skiing, running, hiking, backpacking, climbing, swimming, geocaching-you name it- is all-good, but the bike is my first love. I can still remember the big day when my Dad took off my training wheels and I wobbled away. For a kid growing up in the country, it was my magic carpet to new places and new adventures. Still is.
MOUNTAIN
This is the place and the time to get out on your mountain bike. The not-so-secret news is out: Bend was named Mountain Bike Action Magazine’s Top American Mountain Biking Town in the May 2009 issue. The snow is melting rapidly, opening up higher elevation trails, and the recent showers have been excellent for dust abatement on lower trails. Do it now!

Cross-Dressed and Ready to Go: La Cage Aux Folles brings the circus to CTC

Breast in the WestWith everything from whips cracking to hips popping, the circus has come to town and has jammed itself into the cozy confines of the CTC in the form of a striking production of La Cage Aux Folles.
As I watched the play, the laughter ringing in my ears behind me was the real show; the La Cage Aux Folles isn't shy on the audience participation. We  threw our heads back, clapping and shaking with the music, extreme fun and flamboyance unfolding on the stage.

Council’s Record Falls Short

After 5 months in office, it may be time to look in on how the new Bend City Council is doing. Forget for a moment the back-room maneuvering to seize the Mayorship, to freeze out sitting Councilors Clinton and Barram, to hold meetings with special interests devoid of public notice and the blatant violation of conflict of interest ethics by appointing a Juniper Ridge Advisory Board member to fill a vacant Council seat: I'm talking here about comparing the slate's rhetoric with their records five months into their terms.
Recall that they ran on a platform of fiscal responsibility, economic development and keeping fees low. In turn, they won huge financial support from local realtors' and builders' groups; in effect, in the opinion of many, buying their seats. Let's take a look: how are the campaigners faring as Councilors?

Don’t Bag On Bikers

My husband and I ride our motorcycles as much as possible in decent weather both because it's fun and because less fuel consumption is better for the environment.
Wednesday evening we stopped by Regal Cinemas in the Old Mill, and bought movie tickets at a kiosk.
