It almost feels like a political holiday with all the excitement in the air among politicos around Wu’s resignation. Now we have a whole new perspective to speculate.

The Traveling Camera: Balloons Over Bend
The Balloons Over Bend event is very, very photogenic. You have to be a lousy photographer to not get a decent shot.
David Wu Resigns: Here are some people who might fill his spot.
Obviously the biggest political news in the state today is the ongoing saga of U.S.
Mmmmm, Hamm’s!
Celebrate summer with Hamm’s. “Mmmm, Hamm’s!”
Theodore Hamm (hence Hamm-apostrophe-s, as in it’s “Hamm’s beer”) started the brewery in 1865 near St.
Ride the Wind: Ballooning over Bend
The Northwest Community Balloons Over Bend Children’s Festival kicked off Friday morning at Riverbend Park.
Hundreds gathered in the early morning to watch the balloons launch on what was a beautiful and cloudless Bend morning. One by one, starting at around 6:15 AM, all seven balloons safely took to the sky and headed out Northeast over the Deschutes River, flying towards Redmond. Winds at altitude were brisk, making it a challenge for ground crews to keep in front of their respective balloons. Shortly into the morning’s flight, several balloons touched down at the Skyview Middle School’s sports fields and re-launched shortly after to follow the pack.
Mt. Washington/Reed Market Roundabout to Close Tomorrow
For all you drivers hoping to use the Mt. Washington/Reed Market roundabout, today is your last chance for over a month.
To Vote for Our Mayor or Not: Let the people decide, says Clinton
A divided city council opted earlier this week to postpone a decision on whether to break a 100-year tradition of allowing the council to appoint the city’s mayor and turn the question over to voters.
The issue will be readdressed at the Aug. 3 Council meeting, in part to allow Council member Scott Ramsay and Mayor Jeff Eager weigh in. Both were absent for most or all of Wednesday’s work session.
During the City Council work session on July 20, Charter Review Committee chair, Oran Teater presented the committee’s conclusions as to whether or not a directly elected mayor option should be made a ballot measure (currently, Bend City Council members, who are elected, appoint a mayor from within the Council).
Astro Reopens at New Location – Tonight
Looking for something to do this Friday night?
One of Bend’s favorite spots to find a make-out partner is reopening this evening (July 22), says owner Josh Maquet, who has had to do most of the finish work himself in order to speed things along at his new Bond St. space (939 Bond St., briefly occupied by Subway, is a good up-trade for the Astro with the chain sub-shop now gone from downtown).
Thursday, Maquet offered the Source an exclusive private tour of the new and improved space.
Trails Conditions are Perfect
If you didn’t call in sick to work today, you might want to leave early for a “dentist appointment.” The trails are calling.
What Ales Ya?: Not making the grade as a beer lover
By Bob Woodward
The great American jazz maestro Duke Ellington once noted: “if it sounds good and you like it, it's good music.”
I feel the same way about beer. If it tastes good and I like it, it's good beer. And thankfully every one of our local craft brewers makes at least three beers each that I enjoy quaffing. Thanks to all for keeping me happy.
But recently I found out how wrong I am in simply “liking” beer. That and how out of touch I am with some local beer fanatics. Here's how it all came down.
