COCC Student Art Exhibit & Juried Show

Last week, you very well may have seen some great pieces of art during the First Friday art walk, but expand your art-viewing scope a bit and take a look at some of the hidden artistic treasures to be found up on the hill at COCC. This exhibit and juried show just opened this week and runs throughout June 3, but you should head up there and take a look at all the drawings, paintings, ceramics, metalwork, sculptures, jewelry, photography and watercolors that students have produced this term. 4pm-6pm Thursday, May 12. Cinco de Mayo Party: Ozomatli, Rubblebucket, Todd Haaby & Sola Via

There is plenty going on for Cinco de Mayo: Brandi Carlile is playing the Tower Theatre for a show that's already sold out. Cash'd Out will be doing its best Man in Black impression at the Domino Room and there are plenty of other parties. But where many of you will find yourself is out on Wall Street where Ozomatli jams its cross-cultural rock, hip-hop and more with a big assist from the horn heavy and spacy sounds of Rubblebucket. Also on hand, Todd Haaby and Sola Via, and plenty of Mexican arts and crafts, Mexican food and Mexican beers. Free. 4:30pm-10pm. Downtown Bend on Wall Street.

Last year, around this time, we introduced you to Sara Jackson-Holman, a Bend native who exploded onto the music scene with her debut disc, When You Dream, which showcased the pianist's dynamically sexy voice and Regina Spektor-like fusion of jazz and indie rock. If you haven't seen her yet, you owe it to yourself to check out one of Bend's finest young performers. Eric Tollefson, taking a break from prepping a new album of his own, opens the show. All ages. '80s Prom with The Radical Revolution

The prom features music from The Radical Revolution (formerly known as The Breakfast Club), playing your favorite hits from the '80s including tunes from Tears for Fears, Madonna, Wham!, Duran Duran and many more. If you got a copy of the paper fresh off the press today and have an empty evening, might we suggest you run immediately to the Midtown Ballroom and see one of the finest acts in all of bluegrass? The Colorado band is back in town, as they're known to do around here in the springtime, just in time for all the hula-hooping folks to get their groove on. The Baseball Project, The Minus 5, Steve Wynn

Juniper Grass Music Festival

It's already been two years since the president signed the Wilderness Bill that created the Oregon Badlands and now it's time to celebrate that victory with a night of rootsy music. Appearing at this show, which benefits the Friends of Oregon Badlands Wilderness, are the bluegrass tag team of Moon Mountain Ramblers and Blackstrap, as well as Mark and Linda Quon. Green Card Party

We told you about this benefit show last week for Erin Zurflu, and even provided a gorgeous photo of her, but it's worth mentioning again that this show will help raise money for Zurflu, who has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in her lung. Check out the lineup of acts coming out to support her: Sara Jackson-Holman, Chris Beland, The Erins, and Elliot.
