In 2010, Tony Lawrence amassed the detritus of other breweries’ equipment, collecting enough beer-gear to launch what would be known as Boneyard Beer. The name was a nod to the stitched-together equipment — the “boneyard” of other beer-makers’ stuff. The brewery operated in that punk-rock style for over a decade and a half, pouring beers from a small taproom near downtown Bend, and gaining the esteem of locals all the while. If you’ve ever cracked an RPM on a hot summer day by a lake — or quaffed one after an epic run on the mountain — then you know why Central Oregon likes to find itself in the Boneyard.
In 2018, Source beer aficionado Kevin Gifford announced the opening of the long-awaited pub, located on Division Street in Bend. In 2021 Source beer writer Heidi Howard announced the brewery had been acquired by Deschutes Brewery. Now, in 2026, is another new era. Boneyard announced on its social media sites that it’s closing the pub and “going back to where it all started” — back to operating just the small tasting room at Lake Place, which has remained open all this while.
The “food and beverage space is very challenging and we decided it’s best to scale down and head back to Lake St.,” Lawrence told the Source in an email. The last day for the pub on Division Street is Oct. 11.
“This is a return to where Boneyard began: brewing beer, pouring pints, and doing what we love,” Boneyard wrote on social media.
In the past, at least one food cart sat out front of the tasting room on Lake Place. For now there are no plans for food carts, though Lawrence encourages people to visit the restaurants close by, before or after coming to sample beers.
“Grab a pizza at Fat Tony’s and drop on in for a pint,” Lawrence wrote. “Strong move.”
