Well, not THE rally, but we will have our own version of the Rally to Restore Sanity here in Bend on Saturday.
If you don’t know, the Rally to Restore Sanity is Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s event (Colbert is, however, calling the event the March to Keep Fear Alive) in Washington, D.C. on the National Mall to encourage Americans to tone down the ridiculous rhetoric that we’ve seen as of late. Of course, the rally is also a response to Glenn Beck’s display of demagoguery/egomania in August.
It’s also probably going to be suuuper effing funny. The rally is streaming live and will be screened on Comedy Central on a tape delay from noon to three.
But if you want to be a voice of reason and sanity here in Bend, you can come to the Mirror Pond Plaza at 4pm on Saturday to wave your level-headed sign and NOT compare anyone to Hitler. There will be music and attendees are welcome to read “inspirational words.”
Sounds pretty reasonable.

Brainwashed eunics rally
Thanks for the great write-up. We’ll see you there!
Eunic? Really. That’s is the closest you can come to spelling correctly?
The only thing we have to fear, is LIBERALISM!
Okay eunuch
As if accepting tyranny is ‘restoring sanity”,quite the contrary,it’s insane
Waving a sign comparing one to Hitler would be level-headed compared to B. Hussein
You guys DO realize the irony of writing comments like the one above on a post about this rally, right? Just checking. You guys are doing an excellent job of proving the point the rally is trying to make.
When comedians convince average Joe’s to believe their political commentary you know the public schools have dumbed down the voters. Politics is serious, folks, and this kind of crap belongs in the gutter…just like The Source.
I’ll explain my name before I make further comments – for those of you who cannot spell and genuinely believe trumped-up lies about our president and who might have trouble with subtle humor. Belle Curve is a play on Bell Curve, the graph that shows distribution of intelligence. I imagine that you are slogging along on the lower end of the curve – or you are willfully ignorant. By the way, Winston, your lat sentence is a stunning riposte. Get a dictionary and learn some big words.
Belle Curve, your lat sentence is misspelled! Using $20 words doesn’t make you smart – only arrogant!
Oh, Space Elf Tim, please look up “misspell” and then look up “typo”: it seems you are unaware of the latter word. A wide vocabulary doesn’t make one arrogant – but it sure makes people who don’t understand one’s language call one arrogant.
Being from Colorado with two kids in Bend, I have always been jealous of your roads and recycling, among other things, but after reading the comments, it looks like there are just as many kooks there as anywhere. They can only hope that we will return to the good old days and destroy unions, eliminate the minimum wage and increase the tax breaks to the rich. In other words, return to the rich making all the money and the rest of working for below living wages and no health care.
We’re watching live as Jon and Stephen and hundreds of thousands (!!!!!!!!!!) of fellow Americans in DC demonstrate that they are tired of the rhetoric and histrionics! Amazing!!! I’m too young to have seen and remembered the rallies in the middle of the last century so I have never seen anything like it! I am thrilled to be be doing my part so we Bendites can show our solidarity. 4:00 at the Mirror Pond Plaza downtown. See you there. Woo Hoo!
