The Bend Fire & Rescue along with other fire departments have increased the level of fire danger to extreme due to hot and dry weather. ย Fire danger signs throughout Central Oregon will reflect this change. ย

Fire department reminders:ย  1. ย All backyard debris burning, commercial burning and agricultural burning is prohibited within city limits and Deschutes County Rural Fire District #2. 2. ย Do not discard cigarettes outside in vegetation or decorative bark mulch. ย Cigarette fires are one of the leading causes of fire in Bend. ย 3. ย Keep lighters and matches away from children. ย 4. ย Before lighting campfires check with the forest service to determine specific closures.

The fire department also urges residents to be prepared for wildfire season. ย Be sure your home has a good defensible space around it, clean out gutters, cut dry grasses, etc. ย Residents can prepare their homes by checking information at:ย www.bendoregon.gov/wildfiresafety.
