Whale, Here's A New Design

Does Oregon officially have the coolest license plates yet?

The Oregon Driver & Motor Vehicle Services is stepping up its game yet again. At the end of last year it was announced that Smokey Bear would be getting his own license plate for the state of Oregon.

What's next? A grey whale mother and her calf, that's what.

"This is a wonderful way to support marine mammal conservation on a local and even a global basis," director of the Oregon State University Marine Mammal Institute Bruce Mate said in a press release. "The plates should be popular because they are really striking and the proceeds go to a good cause."

The renewal or ordering fee for these plates is $40 – $35 of which will be donated to the OSU Marine Mammal Institute to help with research, education and public outreach. If you are replacing replace your plates, there will be an extra charge of $5. You can pick these up starting Feb. 1.

Now, with another great design added to the list of Oregon's license plates that acknowledges what the coast here has to offer, is it safe to say that it's #1 in the country when it comes to riding in style?

Beyond the classic tree plate, drivers can choose plates featuring Crater Lake, Pacific wonderland, salmon, cultural trust, Oregon Ducks, Oregon State Beavers, plates for veterans, wine country, Share the Road, Rip City and even more special variations. The options are not just bountiful, but quality as well.

Oh, and not only that—but you can apply to have your own custom background made.

So, that begs the question: What's your favorite Oregon plate?
