Waffles? Yes, please!
The image of a waffle window sounds delightful. Stoopwafel is serving sweet treats from a side stoop at Pangaea Guild Hall in downtown Redmond. Mini Belgian waffles and waffle tacos come in sweet or savory flavors like Goodberry, which combines berry compote, lemon curd and whipped cream, Campfire — a twist on the s’more — and the Elevensies waffle taco with eggs, bacon, cheese and gravy. Pangaea Hall serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with tabletop games.
Canapalooza
Newport Avenue Market’s annual Canapalooza celebration returns June 19-20, featuring local breweries, cideries and food. The event, held outside the market, gives visitors the opportunity to sample a wide variety of canned beverages and meet the makers. There will also be a special beer crafted specifically to celebrate Newport Market’s 50th anniversary. Called “Solid Gold,” the West Coast Ale is a partnership between the market and Sunriver Brewing. The market is also offer 20% off all beer, cider, hard seltzer, hard kombucha and non-alcoholic beer in-store on both days of the event. Family Kitchen, which serves free meals to those in need, will also be on site selling hot dogs as a fundraiser to support the nonprofit.
La Pine Rhubarb Festival
More than 140 local vendors are participating in the 16th annual La Pine Rhubarb Festival over Father’s Day Weekend. The two-day family-friendly event is a celebration of the “pie-plant.” There will be food trucks, a dessert competition, an abundance of pies and a kid’s area. One of the most popular draws is the 900 unbaked pies for sale with flavors like strawberry rhubarb, mixed berry rhubarb, apple rhubarb and rhubarb. Volunteers spend several days in the kitchen making the treats with the money going to support the La Pine Senior Activity Center. Rhubarb is technically a vegetable but became popular as a pastry filling during the 18th and 19th centuries when sugar became more affordable. The plant is easy to grow and hardy.
