Between June 10 – June 14, the Central Oregon Multi-Agency Traffic Team (MATT) conducted a High Visibility Enforcement Effort, increasing patrols and traffic enforcement efforts during a busy week of events and travel in the region.
MATT enforcement efforts focused on impaired driving deterrence and DUII enforcement, as well as Speed, Occupant Protection, Land Departure, Impairment, and Distracted Driving (SOLID)-related violations. These behaviors remain the leading contributors to serious injury and fatal crashes.
Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Black Butte Police Department and Oregon State Police participated in the detail, conducting 831 Traffic Stops focused on SOLID violations. Of these stops, 34 DUII arrests were made, 523 citations were issued, and 578 warnings were given. Below are the numbers for citation and warnings issued for SOLID violations:
- Speed: 496
- Occupant Protection (Seat Belt): 78
- Lane Departure: 231
- Impairment: 34
- Distracted Driving: 67
As summer activities and travel increase in Central Oregon, MATT encourages everyone to plan a safe ride home ahead of time, avoid impaired driving, obey posted speed limits, eliminate distractions, and always wear a seat belt.
The Central Oregon MATT is a collaborative effort between all six Deschutes County law enforcement agencies — Bend Police Department, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Redmond Police Department, Black Butte Ranch Police Department, Sunriver Police Department, and the Oregon State Police Bend Area Command. The mission of the MATT is to prevent fatal and serious-injury motor vehicle crashes on Central Oregon roadways through coordinated education, engagement, and enforcement. Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council (COIC) is partnering with the MATT to provide safe driving education and outreach.
