Central Oregon law enforcement agencies participating in the Central Oregon Multi-Agency Traffic Team (MATT) will be increasing their presence on local roadways throughout the remainder of May as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign.
The nationwide seat belt enforcement blitz runs from May 11 through May 31, covering Memorial Day Weekend. Locally, the Oregon State Police – Bend Command is the lead MATT agency for this year’s campaign.
Although no specific MATT activation dates are scheduled during this period, MATT partner agencies will have additional officers, deputies, and troopers on patrol, focusing on seat belt and child safety seat violations. The goal is to increase visibility, encourage proper seat belt use, and reduce serious injury crashes.
In addition to seat belt enforcement, MATT agencies will continue to monitor for all “SOLID” related violations, which remain leading contributors to major injury and fatal crashes in Central Oregon. SOLID stands for:
- Speed
- Occupant Protection
- Lane Departure
- Impairment
- Distraction
Central Oregon MATT urges all drivers and passengers to buckle up, every trip, every time, and to remain attentive and responsible behind the wheel.
