Roundabout Books is excited to host New York Times bestselling author Kevin Fedarko at an event on June 11 at Summit High School (time TBD) to share stories from his award-winning book, A Walk in the Park: The True Story of a Spectacular Misadventure in the Grand Canyon, recounting his end-to-end traverse of the Grand Canyon. He will be in conversation with Tim Neville.

A few years after quitting his job to pursue an ill-advised dream of becoming a whitewater guide on the Colorado River, Fedarko was approached by his best friend, National Geographic photographer Pete McBride, with a vision as bold as it was harebrained. Together, they would embark on an end-to-end traverse of the Grand Canyonโ€”a journey that, McBride promised, would be โ€œa walk in the park.โ€ Against his better judgment, Fedarko agreed, unaware that the small cluster of experts who had actually completed the crossing billed it as โ€œthe toughest hike in the world.โ€

The event is sure to be an audience-pleaser. Fedarko is well known for the unique perspective he brings to his talks, enthralling audiences with his flair for storytelling as well as his insights into nature and adventure.

Kevin Fedarko has spent the past twenty years writing about conservation, exploration, and the Grand Canyon. He has been a staff writer at Time, where he worked primarily on the foreign affairs desk, and a senior editor at Outside, where he covered outdoor adventure. His writing has appeared in National Geographic, The New York Times, and Esquire, among other publications. He is the author of The Emerald Mile: The Epic Story of the Fastest Ride in History Through the Heart of the Grand Canyon, which won the Reading the West Book Award, and A Walk in the Park: The True Story of a Spectacular Misadventure in the Grand Canyon, which won the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction. Both books were also New York Times bestsellers and winners of a National Outdoor Book Award. Fedarko lives in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Tim Neville writes frequently about the outdoors, adventure, and the business of both for Outside, Ski, and The New York Times among other large outlets with national and international circulations. His work has been included in The Best American Travel Writing, The Best American Sports Writing and Best Food Writing series as well as in other anthologies. In 2015 he was named a Travel Writer of the Year (second place) by the Society of American Travel Writers. Heโ€™s been a guest on NPR, The Takeaway, The Splendid Table, Travel with Rick Steves, RT International, On the Record with Greta Van Susteren, the Azumano Travel Show and others.

Tim is a PADI certified Open Water Adventure Diver, an avid skier (all forms), runner, cyclist, fly fisher and climber. Mostly, heโ€™s a traveler: Tim has been to all seven continents, speaks four languages and has visited more than 70 countries. He lives in Oregon with his wife and daughter, where he skis Mount Bachelor as much as he can.

Tickets are $30 and include your seat at the event and a paperback copy of A Walk in the Park. Tickets can be purchased here, via telephone at 541-306-6564, or in the store.
