The Board of Directors of SFF Presents (SFFP) has announced the upcoming retirement of Executive Director Crista Munro. After a prolific 30-year career in the nonprofit music and arts sector — a journey that began in Southwest Colorado in 1996 and brought her to Sisters in 2019 — Munro shared her decision to step away to eventually pursue new ventures outside the industry.
Munro’s departure from SFF Presents follows a period of unprecedented growth, rebranding, and modernization under her leadership. By providing significant advance notice of her retirement, Munro has ensured the organization will remain on a steadfast trajectory during the transition.
“Crista’s decision to retire marks the conclusion of a transformative chapter for us, and she does so with our full support and deepest gratitude,” said SFFP Board Chair Leanne Summers. “She is leaving SFF Presents in a position of incredible strength, both financially and reputationally. While we will miss Crista’s leadership, we celebrate her remarkable career and the solid foundation she has built for her successor.”
Munro leaves the organization in a place of great stability. During her tenure, SFF Presents nearly doubled its annual revenue between 2019 and 2025 while expanding its slate of educational programs for youth and adults and launching the annual Big Ponderoo Music + Art Festival in June of 2022.
Operations at SFF Presents will remain in seasoned and skillful hands. The current SFFP staff members are experienced and highly knowledgeable. To facilitate a robust transition, Crista will be involved through the Folk Festival in late September and available to support the organization as needed through the end of the calendar year. The existing staff is complemented by a Board of Directors dedicated to a seamless transition and the long-term sustainability of SFF Presents.
“The retirement of a leader like Crista is never ideal,” Summers added. “But, as she has said, a new director will bring a fresh perspective to help us adapt to an ever-changing industry. Thanks to Crista’s leadership, they will inherit a thriving, stable, and highly respected organization.”
The SFFP Board of Directors has launched a nationwide search for a new Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter. This role offers a compelling opportunity for a visionary leader to serve as the chief ambassador for a critical pillar of Central Oregon’s thriving arts economy. Reflecting the Board’s commitment to finding the perfect fit for both the organization and the vibrant Sisters community, the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is hired.
