Oregon State Senator Anthony Broadman was one of 25 leaders to join the NewDEAL (Developing Exceptional American Leaders), a selective national network of Democratic state and local elected officials with more than 200 members across the country.

Members of the network have been chosen from more than 2,200 nominations over NewDEAL’s 15 years. Over the years, NewDEAL Leaders are united by their belief that hardworking Americans deserve a government that ensures they have opportunities to thrive and achieve their dreams. As part of NewDEAL, these elected officials are recognized for their forward-thinking approach to making government work to solve modern challenges. Alumni include former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, who joined as a mayor; Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who joined as a County Commissioner; and U.S. Rep. Janelle Bynum (D-OR), who joined as a state legislator. Current members include fellow Oregon leaders, including Secretary of State Tobias Read and House Majority Leader Ben Bowman.

Broadman, in his first year as an Oregon State Senator, serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance and Revenue. He joins NewDEAL at a critical moment in our nation’s history, where state and local Democratic leaders are standing strong against increasingly authoritarian tactics and harmful policies coming from the White House while still delivering on pragmatic solutions to important issues. From protecting and securing our elections to bringing down the cost of housing to laying the groundwork for a strong economy, Broadman will join NewDEALers who are focused on keeping America true to the ideals of freedom, liberty, and opportunity.

Broadman was selected to join NewDEAL in part because of his focus on public safety, housing, and economic development. One of Broadman’s key public safety initiatives, which recently passed the Senate on a bipartisan vote, was to establish the state’s first permanent wildfire readiness fund. Broadman also passed laws to accelerate the development of more critical housing infrastructure.
