The days when a letter could travel from one end of Bend to another without physically leaving the zip code appear to be numbered.
According to a letter from Oregon Postmaster to Bend City Manager Eric King, the Post Office has concluded that it makes financial sense to shutter the Bend mail sorting facility on Fourth Street.

No Same-Sex Marriage Measure on the Oregon Ballot in 2012
I wrote extensively in this week’s paper about the move in Central Oregon — and throughout the state — to test the waters for a ballot measure that would negate 2004’s Measure 36, the move that defined marriage in our state constitution as between a man and a woman.
Well, as it turns out, Basic Rights Oregon, the group that would be heading up the effort, announced just today that they will not be placing a marriage equality measure on the 2012 general election ballot.

Jem and the Holograms: The Truly Outrageous Interview
Here’s a terrific little interview from MTV Geek with Christy Marx, the creator of my fave campy cartoony Jem and the Holograms! A joint collaboration between Marvel and Hasbro (which always means a toy line tie-in), Jem ran from 1985-88, and was an animated soap opera about a band with a holographic lead singer who is actually the head of a music company who disguises herself with the help of a pair of holograph earrings, and it’s all very complicated, and I don’t really feel like explaining it further.
