Eight local bands are teaming up for a free concert to help fight local food insecurity. The idea started last year when a member of the Bend band Long Operators wanted to do something to honor his late grandfather, a preacher in Seattle. After learning his family had been assisted by St. Vincent de Paul in the past, one of the band members reached out to form a partnership with the nonprofit. Last year’s inaugural event raised $2,324.
This year, the concert, which is the last Friday in July, will be held at Boneyard Pub on NE Division Street. In addition to live music, there will be a silent auction, raffle prizes and merchandise for sale. Boneyard will also donate $1 per beer sold throughout the event.
The beneficiary, St. Vincent de Paul, serves more than 30,000 people each year through its food pantry and other programs such as low-income rentals, a high-barrier shelter and support services. Board chair Sue Shea said in a news release, “Our needs are great and sometimes overwhelming and this effort will have a huge impact.”
Performing bands include Anaphora, Doublejump, Chiggi Momo, The Inspectors, Jackrat, Long Operators, Thoughtbox and Not Your Ex Lover.
