Big Ski’s is Winding Down

A longtime Bend food truck is closing at the end of the year. In a post on Facebook, the owner of Big Ski’s Pierogis announced that after 12 years, it’s time to go onto his next adventure. Big Ski’s, which is located at The Podski on NW Arizona Avenue, serves polish pierogis filled with a variety of flavors including serrano-habanero, bacon-onion, chicken-pesto, pepperoni and more. Rich Winiarski grew up in Connecticut, honoring polish traditions like the Christmas eve supper called the Wigilia, which featured pierogis. When he moved to Bend and shared the meal with friends, he decided to infuse the local cuisine with his comfort food. Wigilia plans to keep Big Ski’s open through the end of the year.

An Angel on the Move

A Broken Angel left its location on NE Second Street and moved to Crux Fermentation Project on NW Division, opening May 19. The vegan truck just celebrated its 10th anniversary. It’s menu includes a daily soup, tacos, enchilada, wet burrito, artichoke tostadas, a variety of sandwiches including a Barb-b-que eggplant and balsamic grilled veggie as well as a brunch menu featuring potato hash with mushroom gravy, biscuits and gravy, a tofu scramble and griddle cakes topped with peanut butter and bananas.

They also serve battered or sweet potato fries. Crushing It

Mountain Mahalo shave ice cart will serve up tropical treats at Crux this summer. The owners say Mountain Mahalo is the heart of two places they call home — Hawai’i and Central Oregon. They say shave ice is more than a treat. It’s a moment to slow down and share joy with people who matter most to you. They plan to open soon in Crux’s recently renovated outdoor space. The cart can also be found at the Northwest Crossing Saturday Farmers Market and Elevation Farmers Market on Friday evenings.

Red Road Pizza Co. has also moved to Crux, offering a variety of 10″ or 12″ thin crust pizzas. Established in 2016, the name comes from the 66-mile long Cascade Lakes Highway, which was originally paved in the 1950s with the red volcanic cinder which gave the highway its original nickname of “The Red Road.”

Crux is hosting a public celebration for its revamped outdoor space on June 6 with music and a vintage clothing rendezvous hosted by Vintage House 81.
