Zach Beckwith, the head brewer at Three Creeks Brewing, is kind of like Dr. Hfuhruhurr from Steve Martin’s The Man with Two Brains. Beckwith wanted to create something (in this case a beer, not a woman) that represents the best of both worlds. Once a brewer at Portland’s Lompoc Brewery, Beckwith recently returned to his old stomping grounds and teamed up with his former coworkers in the making of The Last Maltz (7% ABV, 78 IBUs), a spicy and floral German IPA made entirely from German malts. They brewed a 20-barrel batch of the festive autumnal beer, but please note: there are only four kegs of it available at the Sisters brew house. Rush! (But mind the Austrian police.) (JW)
