Gritty rock ‘n’ roll packed with soul
Nashville-based, rock and alt-country rambler Liam St. John will stop in Redmond on his nationwide on Aug. 15 after releasing his debut album, “Man of the North.” Rolling Stone described it as “a bluesy, powerful album that announces the Washington state songwriter as an artist you need to know.” His music has more than 100 million global streams. The Spokane native pours his heart into his blend of Americana grit, rock ‘n’ roll ballads. In his single, “Send for me,” St. John agonizes over his longing for a lost love. In a news release, he says, “I wrote this song at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, with my buddies Rob and Spencer. I like to think the spirit of Etta James was there with me.”

Dance party on steroids
A well-known international DJ is traveling from Berlin to Bend later this month. German record producer Oliver Dollar has fired up dance floors with a blend of soulful, disco-driven grooves. He’s toured clubs and festivals across Europe, North America, Australia and Asia establishing a reputation in electronic music. The local House of Sutiki is bringing him to Dogwood at the Pine Shed for one night. The electronic dance music scene has been steadily growing in Central Oregon. Daniel Fry created House of Sutiki and has been bringing powerhouse DJs to the local scene since 2019. He performs under the name Mr. Danimals. He and DJ Giancarlo will also be at Dogwood Aug. 21.

A rowdy, riff-heavy good time
The Texas Headhunters are, at the very least, an outlaw band. Ian Moore, Johnny Moeller and Jesse Dayton produced their latest record, “Rise and Shine,” in five days. It’s described as packed with scorching guitar, greasy shuffles, epic storytelling and a whole load of swagger. It drops Oct. 9, but they’ll be at the Tower in September with a preview and a raucous good time. The trio is proud to be loud, sweaty, a little dangerous and a whole lot competitive, trying to outdo one another on stage. They all got their start at the Austin nightclub, Antone’s. The longtime friends have spent the past three decades honing their specialties. Moore blends soulful psychedelia with the blues. Moeller is known for razor-sharp funk and Dayton plays classic outlaw country with the heart of a punk-rocker. Last year they decided to form an alliance, create a record and take the party on the road.
“We’re doing our own take on the whole Texas thing, and I think it’s fresh for a lot of listeners,” Dayton said in a news release.
“I really up my game when I play concerts with the band,” Moeller says. “Having been more of a side man for years, I’m stepping into a new role when I sing my songs. It’s a lot of fun.”
