4 Peaks Music Festival

June 20, 21, 22

Rockin’ A Ranch

$135 at bendticket.com

It’s in Bend’s backyard, it features some of the best string band, bluegrass andโ€”this yearโ€”funk around, and it’s also an impeccably run event. The 2014 edition of the 4 Peaks Music Festival features jangly tunes from Railroad Earth, bass-slapping dance tunes from Dumpstaphunk and new-grass from Bellingham bandโ€”and Bend favoritesโ€”Polecat, among others. Camping is a blast and with local brews and tasty food, 4 Peaks is a rustic and very Bend-like experience.

TV Girl

Independent

The debut album from the Los Angeles-based synth pop team TV Girl is in a word: mesmerizing. Hypnotic, European-inspired beach tunes dress up the record with rich notes of Sweden’s Radio Dept. and Athens, Georgia, trance-pop act Washed Out. Standout tracks are the lazy, electro-layered song “Pantyhose,” and the summer-time strolling song “Hate Yourself.”

Fund on Kickstarter

New album from Crushed Out

A couple of years ago, Brooklyn’s little known indie, husband and wife duo Boom Chick played a great setโ€”in a terrible time slotโ€”at Bend’s Summer Festival. Their garage/surf rock and lo-fi scratch of aggressive vocals resonated well with the early afternoon heat. Now, renamed Crushed Outโ€”the result of legal actionโ€”the pair is back in search of funds for its third album, already titled, Teeth. Ten bucks nets a copy of the album in all its grimy rock goodness and 25 dollars fetches the more desirable vinyl version.
