On Saturday night, I was a bit torn between shows. Should I check out Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons at the Annex or finally see what all the buzz is about with a Portland indie folk rock band called The Ascetic Junkies?

Well, I thought I would do both — see the first set from Ascetic Junkies then cross the street to the Annex. Yeah, that didn’t quite happen. I couldn’t get myself to leave the bubbly and infectious pop goodness of this band. They’re like Pop Rocks — sweet but with a bite. But unlike Pop Rocks, The Ascetic Junkies are perfectly safe when mixed with Pepsi.

The Junkies are coming back on June 26 for the Bite of Bend Festival — a free show that you should check out if you know what’s good for you.
