Yes, Bend, Oregon, home of all things weird (take that Portland!), can add celebrity tortoise to the list of its offbeat attractions and biographical footnotes along with balloon chair traveler and pregnant man.

While Herman the tortoise, as he has been christened by his owner Terry Cubero of Bend’s Reptopia, isn’t national news material, his slow-moving adventures make for a nice, kid-friendly blog. My own kids encountered Herman this past weekend on the streets of downtown Bend and were enthralled. Mom stopped long enough to allow his biographer to snap their photo with the traveling tortoise who currently weighs about 20 pounds but will grow to about 200 when he reaches maturity. But that won’t be anytime soon for the 12 year old African sulcata who has a life span of more than 100 years.  Check out his ongoing adventures here.
