Once it finally got started, this summer has been pretty rad musically. I’m talking about the Band of Horses explosion that kicked off the “summer music season” and then killer sets this past weekend at the Bite of Bend, but now there’s more on the horizon.
First it was the announcement of a solid Clear Summer Nights lineup that includes Colin Hay, Robert Randolph and the Family Band and others. Now, there’s more news, like the fact that Bob Dylan — yes that Bob Dylan, as in “Bob Freaking Dylan” — is coming to Bend accompanied by non other than the original Cougar himself, Mr. John Mellencamp.
Sure, Dylan has slowed down a bit in recent years and his voice has turned more gravelly, but you can still go, hear the classics and say you saw Bob Dylan.
The show is slated for August 27 and tickets go on sale on July 10. They’re going for $79.50/reserved and $48.50/for general admission.
Here’s a sample of Dylan in 2010 from a recent show in Barcelona — the video is hardly ideal, but you can hear it just fine.

I won’t say in what year I first saw Bob Dylan live, but he was alone on stage accompanying himself with an acoustic guitar and a harmonica. Gonna try to make it this year — might be my last chance.
My friends have been watching Bobby D for years recently, and not to be a wet blanket..But they say you can barely hear what he is singing anymore, just mumbles with a beat. Hope they’re wrong, and knowing the Amphitheater, lets hope its worth the price of admission. Maybe a good one to anchor on the river and enjoy.
I can’t wait for John Melloncamp’s upcoming tour! He is such an awesome performer. Here is a cool site that I found for all the Melloncamp fans!
