What is Four Loko? It’s only the most dangerous (and, of course, most popular) malt liquor and energy drink beverage on the market!
And there’s a good chance that the FDA is going to ban Four Loko, as well as all the other caffeinated malt liquors, as soon as next week after scores of college students have been hospitalized nationally, including a group at Central Washington University.
And the Oregon Liquor Control Commission is looking into what they should do about these drinks, too. I dropped them a line yesterday and a spokesperson said they were meeting today. I’ll keep you posted.
And I’ll also provide some insight as to what this stuff tastes like/does to your brain and long-term friendships.
So who knows. This may be the last Four Loko Friday ever. Of course, this means that eagerly curious drinkers are rushing to stores to pick up an armload of the conveniently sized 23.5-ounce cans. Scientific data: One can= 4-5 beers and 2-3 cups of coffee.
But in reality, no one should be drinking an entire can of this stuff. Why? Oh, because stuff like this will probably happen to you.
Update: The OLCC announced this afternoon (Friday) that commissioners will meet tomorrow in Portland to discuss a possible ban on Four Loko and other caffeinated liquor drinks. In other words get ’em now for all your holiday party needs! Drink up, grandma!)

I’m betting that the FDA spent $20,000 and came to the conclusion that mixing Four Loco + vodka confirms that college students aren’t the smartest people on the planet, when it comes to partying ๐
Been there. Done that.
Until we find out the official results – bottoms up, everyone. Happy Four Loko Friday!

I love the different math on this drink in every story or blog I read about it.
Most mass-produced beers are 4-5% ABV. Yuengling, for example, is 4.3%. Most light beers are slightly lower.
4 Loko – 12% ABV, 23.5oz. Roughly 2x as many ounces at a normal beer and roughly 3x as much alcohol is closer to one can of 4 Loko equaling 6 beers. More like maybe 5 1/3.
Also, a lot of these stories are underage morons who ruined the drink for everybody else. Guess what happens when you drink too much? You black out. You do stupid things. You get yourself in trouble. The FDA and government in general need to stay the F out of things like this. The can is plastered with “12% alcohol”. It says it contains caffeine.
What’s next? Ban Red Bull and Vodka? Ban spirits? Hell, let’s just go back to prohibition while we’re at it. Cheese’n’Rice. >=O
Mr. Bookey, I have just done extensive research on this topic (honestly), and if you don’t mind, I will be sharing this article. Great stuff.
Your friend,
WS
Beavis invented this drink and ONLY Beavis should be drinking it. He is CORNHOLIO!!!!
Furlonium, as a former East Coaster I just want to well done for choosing Yuengling over the easy mark of PBR
if they band 4 lokos they might as well band everything!!!!!!!!!! 4 lokos are one of the best alcohol beverages i have ever had and i always have a great night!!!!!!!! my theme for these drinks is”after one u dont even want to go for round two” happy 4 loko friday everyone!!!!!!
Four Loko is weak compared to Mad Dog 20/20.
Amen Tony,
And let us hope that they never “band” that other inalienable right — flagrant stupidity!
if they are banning this drink on the grounds that it has alcohol and caffeine mixed together, why will they still allow bars to sell red bull-vodkas, jack and cokes, rum and cokes, baileys coffees, and other mixed drinks containing caffeine? they have no reason to ban this wonderful drink. underage morons cant handle themselves and get hospitalized and everyone blames the drink, not the drinker. plenty of deaths each year are due to underage drinking, why not ban alcohol all together? not that they should, i’m just trying to figure out the logic behind the white-coats at the FDA. this is ridiculous.
