This morning, the Blender caught wind that Mt. Bachelor (read about their off-season changes in this week’s feature article) had released a video celebrating it’s 50th anniversary so we clicked on over to YouTube and thought we’d share it with you. The video, produced locally by Rage Films, follows the last 15,000 years up on the mountain with a 1950’s-style newsreel film, complete with a perfectly cornball voiceover. Take a look…

  1. I love this, I am fairly new to Bend and this video really makes you want to ski there. I love the voice over too. Well done!

  2. Kudo’s to the editing staff at the mountain. The video was very well made, highlighting all Bachelor has to offer. It doesn’t mention the under-paid staff or outrageous lift ticket prices, but the people it’s aimed at bringing to the area don’t much care about that stuff either.

  3. Nice job Rage Films.. it is a bit bittersweet I must say, to see the progression of so many years, then it seems to hit a brick wall in late 90’s.. to bad they did not stay on track with improvements and upkeep. The current management has done a real dis-service to the former owners dream and hard work.

  4. How about a REAL video showing how bachelor Butte really operates. If this was an honest video it would certainly show people waiting in lift lines or stuck on another broken CHAIR LIFT. Also should be shown is how, not all the lifts run. %75 of the season a highly over priced lift ticket only gets you Sunrise, Skyliners, and Pine Martin lift access, and that is if those are running, not broken down. Oh and the video forgot to mention that the Summit Chair only runs on pristine, blue bird windless Spring Saturdays when the tourist count is at the highest. Shocking how they forgot to mention Bachelor’s world class grooming techniques, because we’ve never had a bad day of groomed runs up there have we? I could go on but the new video would be really long with showing the TRUE MT. BACHLEOR!!!!

  5. I loved the video. The 50’s comb-over was a delight. It made me want to forward it to everyone I know. Too bad the economy will keep my family and friends from ever knowing the true identity of Mt. Bachelor.

  6. Glad ya’ll like the vid. We look forward to seeing you this 50th anniversary season. As the article in this week’s Source covers, we’re focused on three areas of improvement and change. Maintanence and operations, more consistency in customer service, plus a new marketing and communications mindset.

We look forward to showing and telling. Bend and Mt. Bachelor are important to each other’s success. Hate doesn’t heal and Rome wasn’t built in a day. Snowing up there today!

  7. I wish I could spend the next twenty minutes writing my complaints about the management at mt. bachelor so that I could fit in in this town. I wish the management would make bachelor a little steeper!

  8. Well I guess this is what we get to look forward to with every article written about ol Mt. B, some guy, wet behind the ears giving his Mary Poppins version of everything… seems to me if you had all the experience your press release says you have, you would have been shocked by this mtn. management as well. But you were not here were you? So you really have no idea what you are talking about. Why don’t you chill out a bit with your constant defense of a company you really know nothing about until you do have some idea of what’s going on.

  9. You are talking of the past. I am talking of the future. Your points about past mountain management have not been disputed. You are entitled to those feelings and I am not commenting on them. I am up to speed on the past. Part of fixing that is listening and communicating with the public.

I will not (and am not) constantly defending. I am responding to guest feedback. That needed to change in a good way. Ignoring it wasn’t effective. The people reading (and maybe you) can likely see that.
