Scouts May Be Close to Ending Ban on Gay Participants

Big story: Several media outlets are reporting today that the Boy Scouts of America's board of directors is currently considering lifting the group's ban on gay scouts and troop leaders. If the national ban is lifted, local organizations would likely still have the ability to limit access to troops, according to several news reports.

Here's a Huffington Post story and here's a CBS story with more details.

Just last summer, the Boy Scouts reaffirmed their policy of excluding gay scouts and leaders. Boy Scouts President Wayne Perry, who is a Bend resident, and Bob Mazzuca, the chief executive of the Scouts jointly authored a New York Times op-ed piece about the decision to uphold the ban.

We've got our fingers crossed for all the kids and dads out there to whom this applies.
