While we have been busy wringing our hands about the river trash, Upper Deschutes Watershed Council has been busy doing something about it. The local river stewards coordinate the annual Deschutes River Clean-up, and Kolleen Miller, the group’s Education Director, confirms that, “We have watched the problem increase exponentially over the past six years. Last summer we removed bags and bags of garbage from the riverโ€”everything from cell phones to flip flops, Red Robin chairs to bikes, GoPros to hundreds and hundreds of beer bottles.”

In addition to hosting the next Deschutes River Clean-up on August 6, Upper Deschutes Watershed Council has created a Public Service Announcement to remind river users to #enjoyprotectrespect the river. Share it with your family, your friends, and your frenemies.
